Breaking News: Ollie's Big Night

Oliver slept through the night for the first time last night...a relative term in baby-land, of course. In this case it was 11 PM to 5.30 AM, not shabby at all.

It did Mommy and Daddy no good, as we were up most of the night with a feverish Logan (we feared flu but are now thinking cold). In fact, I think Oliver slept in because we were not present to pounce on him the moment he started crying (he was in his own room, whereas he's normally in our room with us).

We'll see how tonight goes with both of them.

Days of the Week

Logan's class is working on days of the week. At home this evening it played out like this.

Logan, what day is it today?

Green!

(Must not laugh. Must not laugh.)
OK. Um...what month is it?

Janvery!

Right! What is your favorite day?

(Pause for serious thought.) Frivay!

Mommy's favorite day is Friday, too! What day is it today?

MondayToosay

Well, what comes after those days?

(Pause for serious thought.) Go see Daddy now.

Big Boy

Oliver Bills: 15 lbs. 1 oz. and excellent oxygen readings. And yet...still waking Mommy up every two hours during the night. Oh, Ollie!

The Delicate Foot of a Parrot

I've made it a policy rarely to share work-related stuff on this blog. But I think it helps set up some context for my day-to-day existence to provide little snippets from the Bulldog world.

Here is a classic example: An e-mail reply to my request for access to a new review site we've set up. My request was pretty basic. Nine times out of 10, the response would have been equally basic (yes, no, yes with conditions).

Every once in a while, though, a gem like this has me laughing for the rest of the day and deeply concerned I will never again work with people quite as funny.

My e-mail: "Love (it.) As a "client," I will get to experience this, right?"

Reply from project owner: I thought for you in particular we’d actually print out each page, attach it to the delicate foot of a local wild parrot and have it fly over you and drop it with a few words of affirmation.

One, Two, Three and Dip...

Sheesh! Next time I flub a line during a presentation or pitch, I'm not going to beat myself up over it. I'm going to follow the model of the chief justice and the new president, who, I assume, are not obsessing over their "foxtrot all over the oath of office" this morning.

Frankly, I don't care if they danced a tango...as long as it's valid.

The Cowboy Cooking Kid

Logan received his first autograph today. We went to a book signing at Book People for a new book by Robb Walsh, who is a Texas cookbook author and the daddy of our friend/co-worker Katie.

We actually did not buy the new book, but instead bought one I've had my eye on for a while: The Texas Cowboy Cookbook. It's kind of a cowboy history with lots of mouth-watering recipes thrown in. Best of all, our copy is signed "To Logan: The Cowboy Cooking Kid."

Jelly Kiss

"Logan. what do you want for breakfast?"

"A sandwich. No pictures, mommy!"

This particular sandwich was "turn butter" (translation: almond butter that Daddy "turns" the top on to open and close) and "MY jelly" (translation: all jelly within a 50-mile radius).
